Installing radiator hose filter (Gano)

I came across a post (can’t recall where) about adding a filter to the upper radiator hose. The idea being that it would catch any ‘debris’ and hopefully stop it blocking the radiator or water channels inside the block.

I went ahead and bought one and I have to say its been a worthy investment. I clean it out every six months or so and its always got some small bits of rust. Less than when I got the car, but it’s still catching them.

The only slight pain is that you need to cut the top rad hose to fit it. It would be nice if it were internal to the hose. But this is a small price to pay for something that could save hundreds of euro for a new radiator or worse, block!
