Whilst working on replacing the rear main seal I found a piston had a cracked skirt. This really took the wind out of my sails as it means (if I want piece of mind) that the engine needs to come out of the car for a rebuild. I’m now looking for a specialist 😦

We have touch down!
After many many months the car is finally back on the ground. It now feels very odd to have the car so low and I had a minor blip (and panic attack) when I had absolutely no gears (Transmission was out of fluid!!) but I’m pleased to have it back on the ground…at least untilContinue reading “We have touch down!”
It’s the small things…
I managed to complete a lot of small things this weekend. The brakes have been bled, the new tunnel mounted e-brake is working, the rear indicator/brake units are installed, wiring has been tidied up under the dash…oh and the drivers side fender is back on and the driveshaft is back in also. She is closeContinue reading “It’s the small things…”
It’s alive!
Finally, after 7 months I was able to start her up. There is still lots to do (quite overwhelming actually) but it’s great to hear her purr once again..although it was more like a cough & a sneeze to start with (see the item in projects called “the importance of spark plug gapping”). Hoping toContinue reading “It’s alive!”
Progress!
Things are starting to move at pace. This weekend I was able to finish both the driver & passenger torque box replacement as well as geting the driver side trunk floor welded into place. All the photographs are in the underway projects section for those that are interested.
Just what long weekends are for….
Easter gave me three days to work on the car so quite a few things got done. I was able to reinstall the steering column and associated firewall gastkets, reinstall the speedo cable, replace the brake light switch and joy of joys reassemble the rear end. Happy Easter 🙂
Major milestone reached…
Today was a good day. I beat my 10 year old at swingball and also managed to weld in the trunk brace & passenger framerail repair panel. All I need to do to finish the trunk is tweak the trunk floor and then weld it in. It feels like I’ve reached a pretty big milestone,Continue reading “Major milestone reached…”
Torque about tricky….
So for St Patricks day I spent hours tweaking the drivers side torque box before finally getting it welded in. It’s not pretty and I only fitted half of it but I’m confident it will add some stability to the car.
A dose of reality…
So my grand plan of patching up the rust in the rear torque boxes has turned into a full blown torque box/frame rail replacement (or at least some of the rail). The rust was pretty bad so for safety I’ve decided to replace them both. Annoyingly the only supplier of the parts I need isContinue reading “A dose of reality…”
Sanding and more sanding…
I started cleaning up the diff in readiness for painting today. Loads of surface rust but did find the original red oxide colour and the factory painted “8”. I think I also have a bad axle seal on the passenger side, so I’ll be adding that to the list of things to do! Oh –Continue reading “Sanding and more sanding…”
